Doug Corbett, Head Guide for River Haven Guiding, has a personality that never stops. He has a wonderful sense of humor and the patience of an angel! And what a superb teacher, for those needing a wee bit of advise. You never feel embarrassed, he simply won't let you. His favorite saying is "ya gotta laugh!"
Our Guides at River Haven Guiding, are considered to be some of the friendliest, and most experienced in the country! All our Guides have years of experience guiding for the Top of the South Island of New Zealand. Their experience and knowledge are beyond measure and all are members of NZPFGA or New Zealand Professional Guides Association. This ensures they are trained in First Aide and have access to more waters.

“Does not get any better”
Just finished my second trip to River Haven. For a combination of great accommodations, gourmet meals and world class fishing, it simply does not get any better. The separate cabins are perfect. Super comfortable, each with its own kitchen stocked with all the necessities (great coffee), flat screen TV, free wifi and views of the river make for a great place to unwind after a day on the river. The food is heathy and delicious. Leya has a full spread for breakfast, great packed lunch for the river and true gourmet dinners ranging from fresh salmon to wild venison for dinner.
And now for the fishing. If you are looking for a true NZ wild brown trout experience, River Haven is for you. The waters, which range from small creeks to large, open rivers are nothing short of spectacular. Fishing these gin clear waters for challenging wild Browns that range from 3-10+lbs is the ultimate trout fishing experience. I believe that's Scott's team of guides are second to none. Guides are extremely important in this part of the world and River Haven's guides will give you the best opportunity to land these awsome fish.
And to top it off, Scotty and Leya's hospitality make you feel like you are visiting old friends as opposed to staying at a commercial lodge. I will be back next year.
